During a May 29 show in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Metallica have performed "The Unforgiven II" live for the second time in history, and for the first time since 1997.
The song was originally unveiled on "Reload" on November 18, 1997. It was debuted live during an appearance on the Billboard Music Awards show on December 8, 1997 in Las Vegas, but that was it.
Back in the day, Lars Ulrich was asked about Metallica seemingly avoiding "The Unforgiven II," to which he replied that both parts of "'The Unforgiven' haven't settled in properly" for live gigs.
And to be fair, after that guitar entrance by Kirk Hammett during the 1997 performance, it would be perfectly understandable that the guys never ever wanted to hear or know about "The Unforgiven II" until the end of time. We kid, we joke, but that entrance really is something, check out the third clip at around 0:39 for a nice chuckle.
Back to the present time, nearly 18 years later, the boys have finally done it. The footage is available below.
